Amid a growing controversy involving actor Shine Tom Chacko, Soothravakyam producer Srikanth Kandragula has issued a passionate public statement, urging audiences to focus on the film’s creative merits rather than the unfolding personal dispute.
The film, a Malayalam-language project, recently entered the spotlight after actress Vincy Aloshious filed a formal complaint against Shine Tom Chacko, alleging inappropriate behavior and suspected drug use during production. The complaint was submitted to both the Internal Complaints Committee (ICC) and the Association of Malayalam Movie Artistes (AMMA).
Despite the gravity of the accusations and the incident reportedly taking place on the sets of Soothravakyam, Kandragula emphasized that the controversy should not detract from the collective efforts behind the film.
“We’ve poured our hearts and souls into this story, and I believe it has the power to connect deeply with audiences. It’s unfortunate that the headlines have shifted focus away from the film itself,” said Kandragula.
“As a producer, I want to make it clear that my commitment to this film and to every member of our team remains rock solid.”
While acknowledging the emotional weight audiences often place on actors’ personal lives, Kandragula appealed for a separation between art and artist.
“I understand the concern and sensitivity around such issues. But I urge everyone to look at the film for what it is — a story crafted with love, talent, and tireless effort. Let us not let one individual’s alleged actions diminish the work of the entire team.”
Sharing his admiration for Malayalam cinema, Kandragula revealed that despite not being a native of Kerala, he was drawn to the film by the region’s rich storytelling legacy.
“Being part of Soothravakyam has been an incredible journey for me. Malayalam cinema has always inspired me — its honest narratives, layered characters, and the way it captures human emotions are what pulled me in. I’m honored to contribute to this tradition, and I hope viewers will give this film the fair chance it deserves.”
The controversy continues to unfold. New CCTV footage has reportedly surfaced showing Shine Tom Chacko allegedly fleeing from a hotel during a narcotics raid conducted by the District Anti-Narcotics Special Action Force (DANSAF). Notably, while Chacko had previously been acquitted in a 2015 drug case, Kerala’s Excise Minister M.B. Rajesh recently criticized the acquittal as a result of “a major lapse” in the police investigation.
The Women in Cinema Collective (WCC) has publicly commended Vincy Aloshious for her courage in reporting the incident, reinforcing broader concerns about workplace safety and substance abuse in the Malayalam film industry.
Despite the media storm, Kandragula remains hopeful.
“We’ve made this film with passion and sincerity. Your encouragement can make a difference — not just for the film, but for every artist, technician, and crew member who gave their all to bring it to life.”
Soothravakyam is slated for release later this year.
